Beta-Delta returns from successful 40th General Convention

Posted by Justin Jett on August 8th, 2013

Sigma Phi Delta’s 40th General Convention was held from August 8th through August 11th in Washington, D.C. Many Beta-Delta actives and alumni attended the conference, which held seminars on topics such as recruitment, networking and running a chapter better.

Active brothers Paul Benedetto, Stephen Buscemi, Nick Ferri, Justin Jett, David Maxey, Curran Morgan, Mike Roselius and Jamison Spicer attended the three-day conference. From the alumni, brothers Matt West, Andy Allen, Brian King, Will Workman, Jayton Gill, Brad Davis and Michael Botkin were at the conference.

Elections for the Supreme Council were held on the final day of the convention. The most notable position change was the election of brother Eric Pew (Omega Chapter) to the position of Grand Vice President, replacing outgoing GVP Steven Weiss. Weiss has served ten years in the national headquarters of Sigma Phi Delta. He was recognized for his service at the banquet dinner held Saturday evening after the close of the Convention.

Another award was distributed at the banquet: the Sigma Phi Delta Efficiency Contest trophy for 2011. The winner? Beta-Delta. This is the first win in our history and is one of hopefully more to come.

In addition to the award, the Beta-Delta alumni chapter received their charter, making them an official alumni chapter.

Vince Fabra from Phired Up gave a wonderful presentation on how to recruit effectively during the Convention. A representative from Men’s Wearhouse also spoke to the Convention on how to ‘Dress for Success.’

Many useful ideas were taken from the convention and closer bonds between other chapters were developed. Beta-Delta is incredibly excited for the upcoming school year to utilize these new ideas and connections.
